I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern with 5 years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I have a private practice in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, at Crown of Glory Counseling. My ultimate goal in therapy is to help you develop the skills to grow and overcome in your specific personal battle. As a mental health therapist I have specialized in working with individuals who may have been experiencing anxiety, depression, dissatisfaction, relationship, and substance use issues. My approach is to build trust and open communication with my clients and provide them with tools for growth.

About Me

Treatment

Specializing in Anxiety Treatment, Depression and Couples Therapy

Anxiety

What is the #1 mental health issue in America? You guessed it. Anxiety! What is worse is that women are twice as likely to be affected. The good news is there is HOPE! I believe in my clients being educated and well informed on what has been troubling to them. So I want you to understand that people tend to use the words anxiety and stress interchangeable but they are indeed different. Stress is a reaction to daily pressures that are happening in the present. For example, Mary just saw on her calendar that her presentation that she has been putting off is today and not tomorrow. She begins to freak out and her hands begin to sweat, she gets hot, and panics. Mary is stressed about something going on right now.

Anxiety is a perceived threat about something that may happen in the near future. For instance, John found out that he has to give a speech for his new job in two weeks and he is terrified of public speaking. He begins to worry constantly, can’t sleep, and has lost his appetite. Stress and anxiety can have similar physical reactions but the thinking (i.e. present and future concerns) behind the symptoms is different.

Stopping anxiety is not as simple as someone telling you, “Just stop worrying about it.” If it was that simple no one would have it. There are different types of anxiety issues I want you to understand and I will explain them in a way that your subconscious can understand.

Couples Therapy

Creating a fulfilling partnership takes patience, perseverence, and trust.  The payoff, however, is priceless.  We know first-hand that life’s challenges can bring stress and feelings of being disconnected from your partner.  At Crown of Glory Counseling, our signature approach is based on 2 hour intensive sessions, which will help you to more quickly unravel the issues that get in the way of intimacy.  From our own experience, we know that a thriving relationship is possible regardless of current circumstances if the dedication to change is there.

Depression

Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working.

Trauma

Someone can be traumatized and not even know it. What do I mean? Sometimes people don’t connect the event that happened to them with symptoms they are experiencing. For example: A lady was robbed (Event) while walking to her car and the guy had a knife. She now has trouble sleeping due to nightmares, is snappy with people, and every time a door slams she jumps. The lady is depressed, has isolated herself, and only goes to work and back home. When a friend points out her behaviors she attributes them to having a stressful job.

Trauma is when an event(s) occur that disables a person’s ability to cope affecting them physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. The lady mentioned above has been affected in all four areas. Not all four areas must be affected in order for someone to experience being traumatized. Some examples could be someone that got in a car accident and doesn’t want to drive anymore, death of a love one, a divorce, bitten by an animal, domestic violence, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, natural disaster, illness, witnessing a traumatic event such as a car accident, shooting, etc.

Trauma affects the brain and it does not function at its best. There is good news! Her mind works fine. She is able to drive to work and back home and carry out her duties at work. However, there is a very small part of her mind that has not been working in her best interest and that is what I would work on adjusting. I would first educate her on what is going on in the mind. Research shows that if a client understands what is going on in their mind they accelerate in therapy.
